BD Fans Treated To Triple Overtime Thriller

By Marty Israel (1/27/09)

It has been said that there is no such thing as a moral victory.  But for the Beaver Dam Diamondbacks, who came oh so close to pulling out a win against the Williams Vikings on Friday night in a triple overtime masterpiece, it can be said that theirs was a proud loss.  The Vikings came away with a narrow victory in the Beaver Dam gymnasium, but they were not the team with the most hustle.  They were not the team that worked the hardest and they were hardly the grittiest team on the court.  Those accolades belong to the D-backs.  And while this one slips officially into the loss column, it was not a loss that leaves a bad taste, as the D-Backs can walk away from the game knowing that they left everything on the court and came within a cat’s whisker of defeating a team that seemed well on its way to a lopsided victory in quarter number three. Lady D-Backs Improve In Spite Of Loss

By Libbie Higley (1/27/09)

On Jan. 20, the Lady D’s stepped on the court to play Fredonia.  In the past, the Beaver Dam girls have been beaten by the Lynx, and by a considerable margin.  But this year, that changed.  Instead of a 79 point loss, it was only a 35 point loss last week.  The game ended with a score of 57-22.  The Lady D-backs took many things from this game.  Roxy Salazar, Jessie Noble, and Joannie Hernandez all had some amazing blocks.  Diane Hernandez had some great steals on defense.  J. Hernandez and Janet Hermosillo were the lead scorers for BDHS, with five points each. Salazar followed with four, and Noble, Libbie Higley, Ashley Villegas, and D. Hernandez finished out the score with two points each.  [read more...]

Boys Beat Fredonia

By Cherokee Thornburgh (1/27/09)

The Beaver Dam High School basketball game against Fredonia last week was very intense.  Both the junior varsity and varsity boys walked away with a win.  The JV game started out a bit slow, but they picked up their energy and dominated with a 30 point lead.  Matt Adamson and Ricky Perez came with the attitude to win, and they never gave up until their fight was over.  The record for the JV boys stands at five wins, three losses.  The varsity boys had an amazing game.  There was even a time in there where they held the ball for a minute and a half without the other team touching it.  The first quarter score was 12-6.  By the second quarter, the lead was squeezed to 14-10.  When the boys came back from the locker room, they gained a 10 point lead, with the score 26-16.  ”Fredonia never took the lead,“ BDHS head coach Vaughn Jenkins commented.  [read more...]
